Naruto Shippuden is a hugely successful anime that ran from 2006-2016 in Japan. The show was based on an equally successful manga series written by Masashi Kishimoto, the comic ran from 1999 to 2014. The anime follows the manga closely. 

Naruto Shippuden follows the adventures of a young ninja called Naruto who is determined to become the Hokage of his village. The strongest ninja in the village is crowned the Hokage and tasked with protecting the land. 

What makes Naruto different from the others around him is that there is a demon sealed inside his soul. Not just any demon either. Inside Naruto lives Nine-Tails, a fox demon who is the most powerful of the Tailed-Beasts. 

Naruto does not know if he can trust the demon inside of him and must battle to keep his emotions in check or risk the demon escaping and destroying the world.

Uzumaki clan

Taking up the first spot on this list is the Uzumaki clan. 

Like some of the other clans in this world, the Uzumaki clan is descended from Hamura Otsutsuki (not to be confused with his brother, the Sage of Six Paths) who was the son of Kaguya Otsutsuki (also known as Ten-Tails).

The Uzumaki clan lives in Konoha village. This was already a very strong village before two of the most powerful people in the world started to share their abilities with it. 

This is the clan that our hero Naruto is from, so if you don’t know much about the show you may be shocked to see it this low on the list. 

Hyuga clan

Next up, we have the Hyuga clan. 

This is another clan descended from the troubled Otsutsuki family. After defeating their mother, Hagoromo (the Sage of Six Paths) and Hamura traveled around the land teaching others their ways. 

One of Hamura’s sons formed the Uzumaki clan, the other formed the Hyuga clan. At the start of the anime, it is believed that all of Hagoromo’s clans have been wiped out. This leaves the Hyuga as the biggest Otsutsuki-descended clan around. 

The clan also knows how to use the Byakugan. This is a skill that allows them to see chakra. This essentially gives them x-ray vision and allows them to see their opponents in the dark. 

Senju clan

When we start the anime, the Senju clan has been all but wiped out – with Tsunade being the last of the line. 

However, everything we hear about this clan shows us that they are one of the strongest in the show. We know that their Hokage Hashirama Senju was the only shinobi to beat Mandara in battle. 

The Senju clan was founded by Tsunade Otsurtsuki, son of the Sage of Six Paths – the same Tsunade that Naruto is the reincarnation of. 

Uchiha clan

The other clan that was started by the Sage of Six Paths family was the Uchiha clan. This clan was started by Tsundae’s brother, Asura Otsusuki – son of Six Paths. 

For a very long time, this was considered the strongest clan in the world. They had the best fighters and some incredibly strong abilities. Three of these abilities are so strong that they were named after the gods – the Tsukuyomi, the Susanoo, and the Amaterasu. 

Madara Uchiha came from this clan before moving away to found another village. This clan ruled big parts of the world for a long time but was nearly wiped out completely by the time the anime started. 

The remaining members are some of the most powerful characters in the show – notably Sasuke and Itachi. 

Otsutsuki clan

There is absolutely no question who the strongest clan in the show is. 

This clan was so powerful, that all of the other clans on this list are descended from them and the clans that weren’t would never have made it close to this list. 

This clan invented shinobi and were the ones that brought the ability to harness magic to the world. 

Throughout most of the show, we know very little about this clan apart from Mandara. 

This clan was formed by divine beings who traveled down from the heavens. They started by enslaving the world, but when their leader was eventually overthrown, they lived peacefully on earth. 

To get an idea of how powerful this clan was when they first arrived – combine the power of all the Tailed-Beasts, with the power of all the other clans on this list. No one comes close to them throughout the series.
